Judges' Comments
Paul White
Very light bright herbal characters on the nose. Smooth, juicy, artificial cherry flavours. Pretty decent length. The wine improved considerably in the context of food. The fruit in the wine emerged and it showed a lovely sweet tart cherry finish. Lots of lovely juicy fruit flavours. Quite a good wine in the context of food.
Tony Allen
Very commercial bubblegum style of wine but it had attractive structure, weight and dryness. I think cranberry. Although very fruity, this wine went very well with the pineapple element and it still had enough grip and dryness for the meat.
Ken Dobler
A nice pink cerise colour. There is ripe fruit and the nose showed bright red fruits. The palate was slightly thin and tannic. The palate was softened somewhat with the food. The wine was somewhat thin for the food.
Kym Milne
A light, slightly peppery aromatic character. Simple strawberry fruit. Clean, fresh, easy. The fruit seemed to lift a bit with the food.
Adrian Atkinson
Dull fruit and flavours on the nose. Quite a neon nuclear colour. Some tequila, almost oak aged notes on the nose, but on the palate it was dry and hard. When tasted with the food, the wine either faded into insignificance or was the perfect harmony for the food.
Doug Frost
Sort of dusty, leafy, even an earthy, muddy sort of note. Dried leaves. Lots of dusty redcurrants. The residual sugar was fairly low. It was a fairly soft and gentle wine but the dust and the leafiness came through in ways that I didn’t find particularly compelling. The wine was overwhelmed by the heat in the dish and by the fat of the meat.
