Judges' Comments
Ivan Donaldson
Bright, raspberry-like fruit. A bit coarse underneath and lacks length. The food seemed to cover the hardness or firmness in the finish and improved the wine.
John Chua
A lovely red rose colour. Soft and fruity. On the palate it’s fruity with soft tannin on the finish. The food goes well with the wine. Uplift of spicy flavour. Fairly good match.
Neil Hadley
A deep youthful pink colour with an attractive blood orange and plum nose. The palate is a bit hot, broad and dry finishing from quite high alcohol. It becomes quite spicy with the pork dish. It’s okay but not exciting.
John Ellis
Colour slightly too dark. A riper style. Clean fruit. Excellent length of fruit but sweetness is in balance. It has flavour and acidity to match the food, but that sweetness pokes through even with the food.
David Bicknell
Full bright red colour with purple hues. Strong ripe berry fruit. Boysenberry, strawberry and raspberry. Rich and full bodied. Quite fresh. Copes well with the sweetness and spice of the dish.
Steve Flamstead
Glazed cherries. Cherry tomatoes, confectionary toffee apple on the nose and on the palate. Reasonably sweet and reasonably alcoholic. The acid was slightly out of balance, making the whole wine a bit kind of odd.
